Steel fiber reiforced concrete is a modern material in building

article.title

Steel fiber reinforced concrete (SF) as a material for load-bearing structures used more than 40 years, including construction of tunnel lining, bridge construction, industrial and civil construction. Dispersed fiber reinforcement allows to compensate the major defects of concrete - low tensile strength and fragility at destruction.

SF is recommended in constructions, which essential reduction of its own weight is occured, a reduction of cracks, providing concrete waterproofing, increasing its shock resistance, abrasion resistance and durability are needed.

Comparing with traditional reinforced concrete SF can be used the most effectively having the following technical advantages:

• increased crack resistance, impact resistance, toughness, durability, frost- and water-resistance, resistance to cavitation;

• Reduced shrinkage and creep;

• the use of more effective construction solutions than traditional reinforcement, such as thin-walled structures, structures without the steel mesh and without the transverse reinforcement, etc.;

• Reducing labor costs for reinforcement work; increasing the degree of mechanization and automation of the production of reinforced concrete structures.

The production technology of such concrete is quite simple: the steel fiber is evenly mixed with the other components of the mixture, and then the water is added. An isotropic material which provides a full adhesion of each fiber with the concrete is formed.

Steel fiber reinforced concrete has a very wide range of application – from industrial floors and motorways to agricultural buildings, civil constructions, airfield pavements, tunnel and bridge constructions.

Mode of application

The сonsumption of the fibers in the fiber-reinforced concrete (1m3 of mixture to flow) is determined by the requirements for its physical and mechanical properties, appointed by the application of construction. Depending on the application, fiber-reinforced concrete, it can be recommended the following content of the fibers:

industrial flooring slab - 20 ... 40 kg / m3;
civil constructions - 25 ... 50 kg / m3;
design and construction, operating in conditions of environmental effects - 40 ... 70 kg / m3;
construction of tunnels, roads, etc. - 50 ... 200 kg / m3;
protective, marine structures and other special occasions -. 100 ... 200 kg / m3.

The usage of fiber reinforced concrete compared to the regular concrete provides the possibility to cut the construction period by 30-40% because of elimination of rebar works. At the same time the material strength remains the same. And most importantly, the material construction costs can be reduced by up to 30%.
